Dr. Daniel F. Martin is the M. Louise Simpson Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology at Emory University School of Medicine and Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs in Emory’s Department of Ophthalmology. From 2008 to 2024 he served as Chair of the Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute. He earned his medical degree at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed residency and chief residency in ophthalmology at Emory.
Dr. Martin is best known for leading the Comparison of Age-related Macular Degeneration Treatments Trials (CATT), which compared Lucentis and Avastin for wet macular degeneration and changed treatment worldwide. He has also served in leadership roles in studies including AREDS, SOCA and MUST, and is Network Chair for the DRCR Retina Network. He is a past president of the Macula Society.
His clinical focus is medical and surgical retina, including macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema and uveitis.
