Overview
Dr. David H. Abramson is the founding Chief of the Ophthalmic Oncology Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the only service of its kind in a US cancer hospital, and the only MSK doctor to hold tenure at once in surgery, pediatrics and radiation oncology.
He trained at Harvard, Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Columbia, where he began working in eye cancer in the 1970s. With colleagues he developed ophthalmic artery chemosurgery, which delivers chemotherapy directly to the eye and has allowed many children with retinoblastoma to keep their eyes. He has published more than 700 peer-reviewed articles.
Dr. Abramson treats cancers on, in and around the eye in children and adults, including retinoblastoma and eye melanoma.
