Overview
Dr. Jerry Maida is a Jacksonville ophthalmologist recognised as a pioneer of refractive surgery in Northeast Florida. He founded Maida CustomVision in 1995, which joined Florida Eye Specialists in 2016 and continues today as Florida Eye Custom Vision.
He helped pioneer outpatient cataract surgery with lens implants in the 1970s, was the first in Florida to perform no-stitch cataract surgery in 1990, the first in Northeast Florida to perform LASIK in 1996, and in 2003 the first in Florida to combine all-laser LASIK with wavefront technology.
Over his career Dr. Maida performed more than 22,000 LASIK procedures and about 37,000 eye surgeries in total. He has since retired from the operating room; his practice’s surgeons continue his work in LASIK, PRK and lens surgery.
