Overview
Dr. Margaret Allen completed her undergraduate education at Florida Community College at Jacksonville and the University of North Florida, and earned her Doctor of Optometry at the Southern College of Optometry in 1996. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Florida Optometric Association and the Northeast Florida Optometric Society, and practises at the Branan Field Road office in Middleburg.
Thirty years in practice is why she talks about vision in terms of consequence rather than acuity. Vision affects every part of life, she says, and she considers it a privilege to have a hand in that. She enjoys solving problems most, the visits where something has not been right for a while and the answer is medical rather than a stronger lens.
Her practice covers full examinations for adults and children, glasses and contact lenses, dry eye, infection and injury, and the long-term work: glaucoma followed with pressures, fields and scans, diabetic retinal examinations reported to the physician, and macular change watched over the years. She also prepares patients for cataract surgery and sees them through the recovery.
Outside work she is an animal lover who looks after several, and she reads whenever she gets the chance.

Questions Patients Ask
How do I book an eye exam with Dr. Allen?
Call the Middleburg office in Middleburg, Florida on 904-291-5800 to book an eye exam or a contact lens appointment. Ask for the first available slot with Dr. Allen by name, say whether the visit is a routine exam, a contact lens fitting or an eye problem, and have your vision or medical plan details to hand so cover can be checked before you arrive.
What should I bring to my first visit with Dr. Allen?
Bring photo ID and your vision and medical insurance cards, your current glasses and the boxes or prescription for your contact lenses, a list of every medicine and eye drop you use, and any previous eye records or retinal scans. Mention diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disease or a family history of glaucoma, because these change what gets examined. Your pupils may be dilated, which leaves vision blurry and light sensitive for a few hours, so bring sunglasses and plan for someone else to drive if you are unsure.
