Dr. Kathryn A. Colby is Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at NYU Langone Health and the Elisabeth J. Cohen, M.D. Professor of Ophthalmology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, and directs the NYU Langone Eye Center. She joined NYU in 2020 after chairing ophthalmology at the University of Chicago and more than 20 years at Harvard Medical School.

She earned a PhD in neurobiology at Brown University and graduated first in her class from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, then trained at Massachusetts Eye and Ear. She pioneered a minimally invasive treatment for Fuchs dystrophy, has extensive experience with the Boston keratoprosthesis, served as president of the Cornea Society and received the Cornea Society’s 2025 Castroviejo Medal.

Dr. Colby treats the most complex corneal disease in children and adults, including Fuchs dystrophy, keratoconus, corneal infections and ocular surface tumours such as conjunctival melanoma. She has authored more than 100 studies and 7 books.
